Vet student brings awareness to suicide through passion for boxing

With the pressure that comes to Vet students and qualified vets, suicide is a risk. Which is what Kayley Linden, a fourth-year Vet student wants to bring awareness to.

Linden jumped into the boxing ring on the 14th of September for the Tamariki Toa event at her boxing gym to spread awareness around Veterinarian and youth suicide.

Linden said there are incredibly unique challenges in the vet profession, including “compassion fatigue”.

“I see colleagues going above and beyond on a daily basis being advocates for their patients and the reality of it goes unnoticed or underappreciated.”

“The battles can be hard sometimes, and I think awareness needs to be given.”

“Not only so those in the vet profession are aware of the resources they have available, but also to those outside of the profession to come from a place of more understanding and appreciate the hard work put into looking after their animals.”

Linden started a GoFundMe page, and nearly $2000 was used for her advertising campaign called Not one more Vet (NOMV) and various other organisations.
