Ōtehā (Auckland) Reporter (4 hours)
Do you like to be political, outspoken, and opinionated? News reporters at Massive are tasked with doing just that. You’ll attend protests, interview anyone from students to politicians, and you may even go undercover.
You will be responsible for keeping students in the loop with what is happening on the Auckland campus - good and bad. You will track down stories, investigate, and conduct interviews to produce one news article per week.
This role is perfect for (but is not limited to) any students studying anything related to writing or wishing to get experience in a newsroom type setting.
Responsibilities:
Complete one news article per week
Attend one pitch meetings per week where you provide and brainstorm story ideas
Adhere to deadlines
Skills and Experience:
Must be a student at Massey University
Interest in current events, politics and media
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Manawatū (Palmerston North) Reporter (4 hours)

Staff writers x 2 (4 hours)
Is your notes app filled with weird ideas? Then writing feature articles for Massive could be for you. You might go dumpster diving, deep dive into history, sell feet pics, share your life experiences, interview icons, or investigate campus ghost rumours.
You will be responsible for writing one article a week that makes students laugh, cry, smile, or find a new perspective. This could be features, personal essays, profiles, investigations, reviews, creative writing, quizzes and more.
This role is perfect for (but is not limited to) any students studying anything related to writing or wishing to get experience in a newsroom type setting.

Te Ao Māori writer (4 hours)
Are you passionate about Māoritanga and telling Māori stories? Then you could be our new Te Ao Māori writer. You might deep dive into Māori history, investigate unfairness within the university system or New Zealand in general, highlight Māori artists and icons, share personal stories, or reimagine Māori legends.
You will be responsible for writing one article a week that makes students laugh, cry, smile, or find a new perspective. This could be features, personal essays, profiles, investigations, reviews, creative writing, quizzes and more. They will need to have a deep understanding of tikanga.
Responsibilities:
Complete one feature article per week
Attend one pitch meetings per week where you provide and brainstorm story ideas

Skills and Experience:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Deputy editor (10 to 15 hours)
Are you a confident writer and leader wanting to make your way in the Journalism industry? Our new deputy editor role could be for you.
You will be tasked with being the editor in chief’s right hand man, while developing your own skills. You will need to be a strong writer with a developed voice in order to assist with critiquing and editing other’s work.
While assisting the editor, you will also be responsible for writing one article a week that makes students laugh, cry, smile, or find a new perspective. This could be features, news, personal essays, profiles, investigations, reviews, creative writing, quizzes and more.
Journalism students or aspiring journalists will be prioritised for this position.
Responsibilities:
Complete one feature article or news article per week
Attend two pitch meetings per week (one for news and one for features), and offer ideas and support to writers as the editor needs
Assist with editing articles to be print ready
Adhere to deadlines
Skills and Experience:
Must be a student at Massey University
Ideally studying something regarding writing, including Communication, English, and Business. However, if your degree does not involve writing but you have a huge passion for it, you will still be considered

Illustrator (4 to 6 hours)
Do you have a passion for visual storytelling? As an illustrator at Massive you’ll be inspired each week by our staff writer’s stories. You’ll be tasked with creating unique and subversive illustrations that elevate the stories inside print magazine.
We’re looking for someone with a unique yet malleable illustration style.
Responsibilities:
Create bold illustrations for features, covers and centrefolds in each issue of Massive
Attend weekly pitch meetings with all staff members
Work closely with the Head of Design and staff writers
Your Skills & Experience
A current Visual Communication Design, Fine Arts or Concept Design student at Massey University.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe Fresco) and/or Procreate.
An understanding of the design principles (contrast, balance, emphasis, repetition, proportion, movement).
Knowledge and understanding of Te Ao Māori practices in a visual storytelling context.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Photographer (4 to 6 hours)
Do you have a passion for visual storytelling? As a photographer at Massive you’ll be inspired each week by our staff writer’s stories. You’ll be tasked with creating unique and subversive photographic work that elevates the stories inside print magazine.
We’re looking for someone with a unique and polished photographic style.
Responsibilities:
Produce photographic work for features, covers and centrefolds in each issue of Massive
Attend and document protests and events alongside the writers and reporters
Attend weekly pitch meetings with all staff members
Work closely with the Head of Design and staff writers
Your Skills & Experience
A current Visual Communication Design or Fine Arts student studying Photography at Massey University.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator)
Knowledge and understanding of Te Ao Māori practices in a visual storytelling context.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
