OPEN ROLES AND DESCRIPTIONS

Ōtehā (Auckland) Reporter (4 hours) 

Do you like to be political, outspoken, and opinionated? News reporters at Massive are tasked with doing just that. You’ll attend protests, interview anyone from students to politicians, and you may even go undercover. 

You will be responsible for keeping students in the loop with what is happening on the Auckland campus - good and bad. You will track down stories, investigate, and conduct interviews to produce one news article per week. 

This role is perfect for (but is not limited to) any students studying anything related to writing or wishing to get experience in a newsroom type setting. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Complete one news article per week 

  • Attend one pitch meetings per week where you provide and brainstorm story ideas 

  • Adhere to deadlines 

Skills and Experience: 

  • Must be a student at Massey University 

  • Interest in current events, politics and media 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

Te Ao Māori writer (4 hours)

Are you passionate about Māoritanga and telling Māori stories? Then you could be our new Te Ao Māori writer. You might deep dive into Māori history, investigate unfairness within the university system or New Zealand in general, highlight Māori artists and icons, share personal stories, or reimagine Māori legends. 

You will be responsible for writing one article a week that makes students laugh, cry, smile, or find a new perspective. This could be features, personal essays, profiles, investigations, reviews, creative writing, quizzes and more. They will need to have a deep understanding of tikanga.

Responsibilities: 

  • Complete one feature article per week 

  • Attend one pitch meetings per week where you provide and brainstorm story ideas 

  • Adhere to deadlines 

Skills and Experience: 

  • Must be a student at Massey University 

  • Interest in current events, politics and media 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • cept Design student at Massey University.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe Fresco) and/or Procreate.

  • An understanding of the design principles (contrast, balance, emphasis, repetition, proportion, movement).

  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Ao Māori practices in a visual storytelling context.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
