Get involved with MUSA

With only a few candidates running for next year’s Massey University Students’ Association (MUSA) executive, it’s more important than ever for students to come along to exec meetings and get involved.

The Meeting time has changed from 4 or 5pm on a Wednesday to midday to 1pm on Wednesdays in the MUSA boardroom.

Executive admin Juliette Hendry says that this change was made to encourage more students to come along to meetings to have their say.

The meetings include free food and an open floor at the beginning of the meeting for students to voice their concerns, opinions or ideas.

“Students can come to us with any issues they may be having, whether that’s with lecturers, student life or mental health concerns,” says Hendry.

“They can come to us with event ideas, it’s awesome when people come up with events they want to see rather than just asking for more events to be organised.”

Hendry says that although there’s been a small increase in student attendance to meetings, it’s still a struggle to get the average student involved.

Ideas to help change this are already in motion, with planning for semester two Stress Free Study Week underway.

Another venture to help get students interested in MUSA is student engagement sessions, with a member of the executive available to talk to students on concourse.

“We just want to get the word out about who MUSA are, a lot of people still don’t know who the individuals are that make up the exec,” says Hendry.

The four remaining governance meetings for the year are on the September 19, October 17, November 7 and December 5.
