College of Business to hold first ball in 30 years

It’s been 30 years since the Business Ball was held at Massey Manawatu, and the Accountancy Club is bringing it back for 2018.

The club committee has 11 exec members and just over 100 general members, with half of the committee delegated to form a ball committee.

The Accountancy Club is currently the only business club at Massey Manawatu.

“If anyone was going to bring it back, it’d be us,” says committee member Jayden Joe.

Joe came up with the idea. “It’s my last year, and for me this is about giving back to Massey,” he says. “There was definitely a demand for it.”

“We spoke to club mentors, lecturers from the School of Accountancy, made the Facebook event to get interest.”

About 500 people were interested or going on the Facebook event, with over 200 having bought tickets so far.

Joe and committee member Jessica Rich say that they’ve had a lot of interest from students and are looking to get around 350 people attending the event.

“Every other accounting club event has been pretty successful, our networking evenings and so on,” says Rich.

The Great Gatsby-themed ball is being held on November 6 at the Distinction hotel, and students can expect a great atmosphere and catering.

The entertainment on the night have played at both Bay Dreams and Homegrown.

“A lot of vet students were interested in our ball having missed out on theirs,” says Joe.

“We’ve had a lot of interest from students from other degrees.”

The day tickets first became available to all Massey students, they were lining up in the library to get their tickets.
