Campus Co-Lab to launch across campuses

Massey University is taking their Campus Co-Lab initiative nationwide to allow students to make positive changes to their university life.

The initiative hopes to encourage students to submit their ideas on how to improve campus life and collaborate with other students and staff to make their ideas a reality.

Campus Co-lab will be launching across all three Massey campuses in May.

The launch will take place on the Auckland campus from 14-16th of May, Palmerston North from 9-15th of May and in Wellington on 14th-16th of May.

Campus Co-Lab has successfully launched 17 projects in Wellington over the last three years.

50% of the ideas submitted to Campus Co-lab across the three campus’ have been surrounding sustainability, highlighting students’ wish to help improve Massey’s environmental impact.

Successful ideas created throughout the program include increased composting, recycling across campus, discounted coffee for reusable cups and an electric bike hire scheme.

Thomas Nash, Massey’s Social Entrepreneur in Residence, encourages students to get involved.

He said it is important to have a mechanism at university to get students ready for the world of work they are going to be face.

“We are coming to the end of a certain period of political and social organisation and nobody knows what it means. We will have to design the future workplace ourselves.”

“The good thing about it is a lot of these incubators are very competitive but that’s quite intimidating and intense. At Campus Co-lab, you can make it happen in a fun environment,” he said.
