Elemental is set to liven up Auckland’s winter with over 40 free and ticketed events for the whole month of July.

The festival follows the themes of the elements of air, fire, earth and water and is the brainchild of the Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Department (ATEED).

The Festival is aiming to increase tourism around Auckland throughout the quieter winter period as well as creating a positive atmosphere around the city for locals.

Light installations will be in place all over the city from local parks, streets, the Harbour Bridge and on Great Barrier Island.

“We are looking forward to revealing the full line up of events in late April, but wanted to start spreading the word now that something exciting is coming this winter,” ATEED General Manager Steve Armitage said.

Some of the line-up that is released so far is Tūrama, a living art piece that will installed in Albert park for four days.

The piece will be interactive for the public with projection mapping, interactive light-art, fire and performances.

There will also be a selection of healthy and diverse food and beverages.

Another event will be Stellar, an after-dark experience over three days which will be a celebration of Matariki, the Maori New Year.

Great Barrier Island will also be getting lit up as part of the festivities, with photography competitions, navigation lessons, sundial and an Island Ball.

Visitors will need to travel via ferry or plane to reach this particular event.

Dates and the rest of the line-up will be released shortly.
