New president excited to make changes for students come 2021
Last month Tessa Guest won the 2021 MAWSA presidential election in a landslide result, and is ‘buzzing’ for next year.
Guest took out 71% of the votes over her opponent Liam Davies, and says she is already in planning mode for next year.
“I want to hit the ground running so our campus is alive and thriving right from the get go, from empowering clubs to create inclusive communities, to hosting consistent events, to building up committees and ensuring student’s voices are heard for all of 2021 and beyond. It’s all about you!”
She also highlighted how she considers Massey and MAWSA her home, and spoke further on how excited she is to be spending another year on the campus.
“After a year of working for MAWSA, I’m really invested in this organisation and how much it can change student experience. I have absolutely loved advocating for students this year in a welfare capacity, and I have a lot more I’d like to get done.”
Guest also joked about her real challenge; “Keeping MAWSA’s herb garden alive over summer - only time will tell whether I have it in me! Watch this space.”
The president and the rest of the 2021 Executive will officially start their roles in early January next year.
Fellow executive members include Elizabeth Hodgson, who was elected as Vice-President after narrowly beating current executive member Elaine Hague.
Phoebe Bertelson took the position of Academic Officer and Jordy Katene narrowly beat Doll Marquiller for the position of Welfare and Equity Officer.
Khushboo Singh is the new Clubs & Community Officer and the Sustainability & Wellbeing Officer position went to Joseph Ogle.
