Common goal for 2019 MUSA executive

Members of this year’s MUSA executive bring a melting pot of skills and qualities to the table, but all have the same vision for their roles this year – improving university life for Manawatu students.

Michael Salmon is the new MUSA President for 2019.
He is in his final year of a BSc in Genetics and Microbiology, with a minor in creative writing.

“This year comes to us with a great amount of promise if we, as students, are willing to reach out for what we need,” he says.

“MUSA is here to provide guidance in whatever you may need whether it be advice in tenancy or employment, volunteer opportunities, advocacy, hardship, or anything else you may want.”

Kyle Fitzgerald is in his second year of a Bachelor of Science and is the 2019 MUSA equities officer.
His goal for this year is to make university life as stress free as possible for all students. MUSA will continue
to run Thursdays in Black this year, which Kyle is involved with.

“One thing to look out for this year are the Thursdays in Black (TiB) events that are going to be running every Thursday of semester 1 and 2,” he says.

“TiB are working towards a world without rape and violence by raising awareness and the best way you can support the movement is by wearing black on Thursdays.”

Callum Goacher, the Education executive in his final year of politics and English lit, is also looking forward to getting students more involved with on campus activities.

“I’m looking to run World Poetry Day again in March and be involved in my 3rd MUSA drag show at some point.”

He also urges students to get involved in O-Week, especially seeing The Beths in concert because “their album SLAPS.”

Alannah Hoskin brings up the rear as MUSA’s 2019 Admin officer. She has recently completed her bachelor’s degree in education and is aiming to complete a graduate diploma in early childhood in 2020. Like Callum, she is also looking forward to what O-Week brings and helping students settle into uni life.

You Bo Guo and Ngahuia Kirton make up the rest of the MUSA executive as the international executive and welfare executive respectively. They were too busy doing brilliant things for MUSA to provide comment.
