Clubs and societies celebrated at annual event

Students toasted to a year of hard yakka at a glitzy clubs and societies event last month.

The annual Massey at Wellington Students’ Association (MAWSA) Clubs and Societies Awards were held at the Flax and Fern room on September 21.

More than 40 students attended on the night to celebrate a year of hard work put in by some great clubs, with drinks, nibbles and dancing.

Among the clubs to attend on the night were Massey Digital, the International Society, the Photography Club and Banter & Brews.

Best Academic Club for 2018 went to the Photography Club, while Board @ Massey – Massey Wellington’s board game club – won Best New Club.

For the third year in a row, Massey Outdoor Recreation Club won the “Gold Digger” award for applying for the most grants.

The awards were hosted by MAWSA President Emma Pearce and College of Creative Arts Executive Dylan Healy.

Clubs Coordinator Tim Kendrew says this year’s event was once again a roaring success.

“The awards are all about celebrating all the hard work that clubs have put in across the year and thanking the students who have given up their time to make them happen.

“Clubs are important because they build a sense of community and help people to find a place to belong on campus and they enable people to try new things.

“We currently have just under 30 clubs and always keen to support students who want to start new clubs.

“We have $20,000 in grants available throughout the year which clubs can apply for.”

Pearce says the event was a lovely way for clubs to wrap up what has been a successful year of bringing students together.
