Are bald men sexier?

What do Bruce Willis, Shemar Moore and Kelly Slater have in common? Well, besides the fact that they all are masculine celebrities with plenty of female fans, the three of them are bald.

A study conducted by Albert E. Mannes in 2012 concluded that bald men would tend to be more attractive and dominant than men with hair.

This study was seven years ago, but it still seems to be true here in Wellington.

Michael Petrie, owner of Cuba and Courtenay Place Barbers, says that bald men have a more manly appearance.

“I could suggest that there is a certain masculinity with men that I shaved heads. Having a shaved head gives them a harder look.”

Petrie claims that media is responsible for making bald men sexy.

“Actors in television and movies today like Statham, Vin Diesel, The Rock have changed the way people see bald men.”

For Petrie, hair is a personal presentation of oneself. Self-acceptance is essential before being accepted by others.

“A man that own his baldness is confident, whereas the man who doesn’t want to be bold, becomes unconfident. Young men are afraid of it, but once they own it, they look much better.”

In addition to creating a style, Petrie adds that nothing looks cooler with a shaved head than a beard.

“Vin Diesel with a beard would be freaking killer.

On the other hand, Julie Harris, front manager of Rodney Wayne, disagrees and says facial hair does not go well on a man’s face.

“I don’t like facial hair. It’s like they try to replace their baldness with a beard. “

Harris suggests that having a bald head makes men look more charismatic and embellishes their face.

“It gives them a nice looking face and their eyes might stand out a little bit more. It’s quite fashionable to shave it all off.”

Harris said that some men would be much more attractive if they were bald.

“The Rock looks better bald. I’ve seen him with hair… it’s not the same”.

Rachael Kelsen, an 18-year-old apprentice at Rodney Wayne, agrees that men look better without beards.

“I don’t like it either. I think it looks messy,” she says.

But unlike her manager, Kelsen claims that hair makes men more attractive.

“I prefer men with hair, they look younger and have better features.”
